June 30 Update

June is finally over! Jenni and I agree that June has taken a long time to pass. July is going to be a frustrating month, but also one of great progress. And to begin that progress Carrick moved into a different type of isolette; one that doesn't humidify the air (he still needs a heated isolette though; the air is around 84 degrees F). For over 9 weeks he's needed the humidity, but now he doesn't! He is still on a pressure of 4 on the highflow, but his oxygen setting is only around 25%. The doctor upped his feeding to 8.7cc/hour, not back to 9 but still a little more. Remember when Carrick pulled out his feeding tube a few days ago? Well, he did it again so they rerouted it through his nose this afternoon. For the first time in his life he doesn't have anything in his mouth! And he is putting that mouth to good use; tonight he smiled a full smile for the first time. It happened exactly when Jenni put a kiss on his nose with her finger. Great timing Carrick! He's also moving more--making faces, squirming, and raising his head. When he's awake he looks conscious, like he knows what's going on. He's looking and acting more like a normal baby every day. It's so great! But at the same time it makes Jenni and I more antsy for him to come home. We'll see. More to come.
