August 21 Update

Carrick is not coming home tomorrow. The eye doctor wants to see him on Tuesday again. He also said he does not want Carrick coming home on oxygen because of the danger to his eyes. The good news is that Carrick is breathing 100% on his own for the first time in his life! As of 3:00am Wednesday morning he isn't on any type of air support. You see, they switched him onto an oxygen tank Tuesday because that was what he would come home on, but they kept dropping the pressure until Carrick was down to 1/64 of a liter of air at 100% oxygen. That is an extremely low flow. Then, he didn't need even that. We spent the night with him last night, and he didn't need any air support through refluxing, crying, feeding, sleeping, burping, or wiggling. Carrick doesn't have anything on his face for the first time in his little life. But this also means Jenni and I have to wait a little longer for him to come home. We learned how to work all his equipment this afternoon. It looks like all we'll have is an apnea monitor if Carrick keeps up this breathing thing. They're letting us feed him more to his preference now, also. He almost ate 2 oz of formula last night! It was nice nesting, but the room was obviously a hospital room. It actually wasn't that different from visiting, accept we could shut the door. Carrick may come home next week--Tuesday or Wednesday. We'll see. In the mean time enjoy some great face pictures.
