October 21 Update
Here is an update on Carrick's cold: It's alright. We ended up going to the emergency room Saturday night because Carrick was having more trouble breathing. They suctioned him, x-rayed him, and gave him an intense breathing treatment. He felt a lot better after being suctioned; he had a lot of junk in there. We had to turn him up to 1/4 of a liter on Sunday for a little bit, but he went back down to 1/8 of a liter same day. We went back to the pulmonologist yesterday and she said that Carrick is acting like a normal preemie with lung disease during a cold, which is reassuring to us. As long as he eats around half of his normal intake and doesn't go up on his oxygen more we won't have to go back to the doctor or emergency room. He is so pitiful. He sleeps most of the day, more than usual. He's working harder than normal to breathe and gets a breathing treatment every 3 hours, as apposed to twice a day. He eats 1.5 oz a feeding, if that, when he did take 3.5 oz a feeding. He was on 1/32 of a liter of air but right now he's in between 1/8 and 1/16 of a liter. Every step up is double what he needed before. All babies get colds in the winter, but poor Carrick's takes more of a toll on him. He should get back to normal in the next week. The doc. did say no visitors until he is completely better. Sad...but we're hangin' in there and so is Carrick!
