May 1 Update 1
It was much quieter, at times, this morning. Carrick slept most of the time we were visiting him. At the end he got angry again. The nurses gave him a sedative and some pain medicine, both of which he is on a lot. Jenni and I read him a Curious George story and a Bible story. He would wiggle around every so often. It's amazing how a little wiggle excites us so much. We talked to the doctor, also. Carrick is developing cysts on his lungs. If they continue to grow he will have to be on a special ventilator that will provide added pressure on his lungs to help. He also has bleeding on the right side of his brain. The left side is all clear. She told us they measure the bleeding on a 1 to 4 scale, 4 is bad. Carrick's is borderline level 3, between a 2 and a 3. We just wait. They'll do another ultrasound next week and hope it's fixed itself. If not, then surgery is the next step. But the doctor did assure us that surgery is a long way away. She said preemies with 1 and 2 level bleeding usually do fine, like a preemie with no bleeding even. We're still waiting to hear about his PDA. The nurse did say last night that she was having a lot of trouble hearing the PDA when she listened to his heart. We'll let you know. Jenni and I bought Carrick some books this afternoon--some Clifford: The Big Red Dog stories and some Frog and Toad stories; each book has 4 stories in each. We also got a big preemies book for parents that the hospital recommended. Thanks for your prayers. More to come later.
