May 22 Update

Carrick had a PICC line that started through his leg and went up into his body. It was like a super long IV. They took that out because the doctor thought some of the infection might have been in it. They use a PICC line because it stays "good" longer; the normal IVs wear out after a few days in him. Everything else is pretty much the same. He still hates the breathing tube. If his blood culture is negative today they're going to attempt to schedule his surgery for this weekend. He'll move to another children's nursery connected to the hospital for the surgery. The actual procedure looks like this: they'll go in his left side in between the ribs, move his lung out of the way, and close off his PDA--a blood vessel near his heart. The doctors are confident. The nurses did start putting him in the next diaper size, not because he's big enough, but because he's filling up the little ones. Even so, the little dipaers are still too large for his little body so you can imagine what this next size up looks like on him. Sorry this is late again; it seems you have to find the right place in our apartment for the internet. Thank you for praying. Please continue to do so. More to come.
