July 3 Update
Carrick is 10 weeks old today. Ten weeks ago today Jenni and I were in her hospital room exhausted after a very loaded day. Carrick was only 1 lb 8 oz, both eyes were still fused shut, and he couldn't do any of the things he's doing now. He couldn't even cry because of his breathing tube. But now, 10 weeks later, he looks like a baby. He eats 8.7cc/hour. He's on about 24% oxygen on the highflow and still a pressure of 4. He gained another ounce and is up to 3 lb 12 oz. Our nurse last night even said he's not too far away from moving into an open air bed. Big things are happening. I gave him a bath last night, and he still isn't that thrilled about it. But he's calmer now. He doesn't cry or squirm as much when we change his diapers. He sleeps deeply now. He even smiled again tonight, but it was while he was asleep so we don't know what triggers it. I think he's dreaming about sleeping in his crib at home. Carrick has come a long way, but he came so early so he still has a long way to go. There has been no talk of a time frame for him coming home. Sometimes 10 weeks feels like it's been years, but then other times it feels like a couple days. Jenni and I want him home so badly. Ten weeks is a long time. Thank you for praying for Carrick and for us. More to come.
